Ongoing Project - Studies on the Epidemiology and Control of Pomegranate Bacterial Blight

Studies on the Epidemiology and Control of Pomegranate Bacterial Blight

Principal Investigator

Dr. Suresh Babu

Hypothesis

Integrating epidemiological management and control strategies can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of bacterial blight in pomegranates, improving fruit quality and yield.

Narrative

Pomegranate bacterial blight, caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae, affects fruit quality and yield. The disease spreads through contaminated water, tools, and debris, thriving in warm, humid conditions. Control strategies include improving sanitation, using drip irrigation, applying copper-based fungicides and antibiotics, and planting resistant varieties. Combining these approaches effectively manages the disease and enhances pomegranate production.
